Justification

Mexico is in an epidemiological transition that is reflected in the morbidity and mortality affecting the population and Veracruz is not on the sidelines.

This process, given by economic, social and lifestyle factors, such as lack of physical activity and inadequate nutrition, favors the increase of non-transmissible chronic diseases (NCDs), being the most outstanding Diabetes Melliutus type 2 and cardiovascular diseases; which have become a health emergency that not only affects productivity in institutions or school performance, but also the quality of life of all Mexicans.

Given this problem, the National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Overweight, Obesity and Diabetes is established. This Strategy should include the promotion of healthy lifestyles and eating habits, the generation and rescue of spaces for physical activity, the training of health personnel and the strengthening of primary care.

Within this national context, the need arises to establish the foundations, context and platform for the construction of the educational program of the Master Degree «Nutrition and Quality of Life», which in its multidisciplinary character (graduates in Health Sciences) addresses the problems mentioned from different angles, attending to the social needs of employers and professionals in such a way that the above contributes to improve the nutritional status and quality of life in the national and international spheres.
