Knowledge Generation and Application Lines |
- Identity, culture, communication and power
It addresses the formation, transformation, conflict and negotiation of individual and collective identities through cultural production (media, music, film, arts, literature), social movements, politics, and social and cultural practices, seen as dynamic processes of interaction within fields of power. Consideration is given to the ways in which cultural practices reinforce, question and reproduce existing power structures. This line incorporates gender and sexual, class, ethnic, generational and/or youth, national, neighborhood and other identities.
- Cultural practices, discourses and memory
It studies discourses, symbolic supports and all those cultural practices formed in everyday life, which are carriers and generators of both identities and subjectivities and contribute to the construction of the memory of a country, a region, a state, a people. In this line, it is considered that the meanings given to the facts of the past are not unique, which gives rise to symbolic struggles for memory. It also deals with the work of historical reconstruction (through documents and other non-standard sources such as oral tradition, life stories, popular lyrics, participant observation, among others) and the documentation of living traditions through printed or audiovisual media.
