This book gives life to 25 case studies that present forest plants and animals. Botanical cases are presented according to the part of the plant used: the fruit, bark, root or wood. In each case, the authors describe the main characteristics of the forest product, its history, cultivation and management as well as the way in which it is processed and commercialized. At the end of each case there are some reflections about current trends and issues related to the resource. The conclusions chapter reviews common themes and lessons that can be derived from the cases presented.

This publication aims to share community experiences of management and commercialization of NTFPs that have generated economic and environmental social benefits and that can serve as an example to other rural communities in Mexico and the world. It brings together 19 community experiences of sustainable management of NTFPs that put Mexico at the international forefront in this field. These cases are representative of a greater number of experiences in different regions of the country, whether in forest ecosystems in temperate or arid tropical regions.
