Foundation of the Program 

Orientation 

Since its foundation the Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences was oriented to basic and applied research in the different branches of biomedicine.

 

Justification

Our country is immersed in an intense process of commercial opening as part of a profound transformation that is being experienced in the international context. This process is collectively called globalization and covers all economic, social, political and cultural aspects of countries. One of the main challenges of globalization is the competitiveness among nations to improve the living standards of their societies. In this context of competence, higher education institutions acquire great relevance as they are committed to contributing to the generation of new scientific and technological advances.

Biological and biomedical sciences have a great tradition in our country and as a consequence at the present time there are various postgraduate degrees either in biological sciences or in any of their specialties. Most of them are concentrated in the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). For example, in the IPN there are doctorates in: Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Plant Biotechnology, Pharmacology and Genetics and Molecular Biology. The Work Program 2005-2009 of the Universidad Veracruzana, recognizes the importance of “the formation of highly specialized human capital, which responds to current needs and addresses the challenges of the information society; the knowledge and continuous learning of our time, requires that university studies be based on processes of generation and application of knowledge ”. The PhD Program that is proposed, focused on biomedicine, is based on this perspective.

Our University offers various undergraduate degrees related to biological sciences and medicine, including in the technical academic areas, health sciences and biological-agricultural sciences. These careers are: Chemistry-Pharmaceutical-Biological, Agrochemical Engineering, Agricultural Chemistry, Clinical Chemistry, Surgeon, Psychology, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Engineering in Agronomy and Biology, among others. Taking into account the breadth of the biological sciences and, even more, the interaction with biomedicine, which we propose, the interaction between these disciplines is necessary to favor research in this area.

The Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences, has been oriented towards research, envisioning a very wide field of work for the graduate that covers a range of work activities that include: research, teaching at the bachelor’s and postgraduate levels, administrative management and advice. These activities can be developed in both public and private institutions.

 

Vision

The DCB is a postgraduate program of international competence where basic and applied research is developed that contributes to solving health problems in the population and forms professionals of excellence with a doctorate degree that are integrated into the labor market at a private level and in government agencies carrying out both biomedicine research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.

 

Mission

The DCB was developed by a group of professors with the mission of training human resources and promoting the generation, application and dissemination of knowledge in the field of biomedicine for the benefit of our society.

 

Objectives

  • Train high-level researchers, capable of generating knowledge, identifying and solving problems related to the field of biomedicine from a multi and inter disciplinary perspective.
  • Train researchers with a level of excellence, capable of teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in subjects related to the field of biomedicine.
  • Promote scientific research in the area of ​​biomedicine to help solve current problems that affect our society.

Goals

  • Achieve a terminal efficiency of at least 70% in our graduates by generational cohort
  • Increase the stays of international research of students to 30% by generational cohort.
  • Specify a collaboration agreement per year with recognized institutions to carry out collective research projects.

 

The application consists of:

  • Written request document
  • Three letters of recommendation (three letters of recommendation must be submitted from faculty members acquainted with the applicant’s work in the major area of study. please use the recommender’s professional e-mail address, at least one recommender must be from the applicant’s faculty advisor or research mentor)
  • Academic history
  • Publication list (if any)
  • Applicants are requested to send an essay as either a pdf or word document. which must be prepared in agreement with a mentor of the program.
