The Maestria en Ecologia Tropical (MET) was created in 2007 as a result of the mission, vision, and objectives of the group of researchers, support staff, and collaborators that made up CITRO at that time. The focus of the Master’s program is directed towards basic and applied research to address the various socio-ecological problems of the tropics.
Since 2007, seventeen generations have graduated, with a total of 148 graduates whose thesis projects address topics relevant to the Mexican tropics, ranging from basic science studies, such as diversity patterns in different groups of organisms in tropical areas and reproductive biology (bats, rodents, primates, birds, epiphytes, trees, plants, and other organisms), to topics related to the use and traditional management of biocultural resources.
Mission
To train socially responsible professionals, capable of incorporating scientific, local, traditional, and technical knowledge for the conservation and sustainable management of biological and cultural diversity in tropical areas, as well as to develop innovative research with an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approach.
Vision
Position the MTE by 2034 as an international benchmark for training professionals who contribute to solving socio-ecological problems related to the biocultural diversity of the tropics, through innovative research with an inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary approach
