Justification

The Master’s Degree in Mexican Literature, with a research profile, is aimed at training qualified human resources for generating and applying new knowledge required by our country to meet its social need, make viable, innovative, and original proposals, and actively participate in national and international forums concerning the discipline. Some of the purposes we have set are the following:

  • Strengthen research capacity to reach a thorough understanding of the problems that concern the discipline, as well as the themes, phenomena and problems that require special attention.
  • To contribute to the advancement of literary studies on Mexican literature by offering new perspectives of analysis and study methods.
  • To train researchers to foster productivity, and the expansion of job opportunities in the country.

In accordance with these goals, the program is based on solid and high-quality training in the knowledge of the discipline, an approach that fosters critical thinking and a solid and flexible curricular organization that promotes the students’ individual skills and abilities. In general terms, these elements allow an integral and qualified formation of critical and innovative professionals with initiative to face the social and cultural demands of the country in the 21st century.

Mision

To offer a disciplinary, theoretical, historical, and cultural education that prepares our students in the study of a field of knowledge in a constant process of formation and transformation, that makes them capable of producing original and high-quality work that contributes to the generation and application of knowledge according to regional, national and international needs.

Vision

According to our extensive and recognized trajectory as a postgraduate in the Mexican Republic, we seek to be a nationally and internationally competitive graduate program in the field of Mexican Literature studies, recognized for its solid and extensive experience in the formation of critical, innovative and proactive researchers facing the social and cultural demands of the 21st century.

General Objectives

To develop the ability to generate and apply new knowledge in the Mexican Literature field through the elaboration of research papers in which:

  1. New perspectives of analysis related to periods, theories, works, authors or genres of Mexican Literature are proposed.
  2. Develop methods of study and models of analysis useful to explain periods, generations, plays, genres, poetics, aesthetic, problems, and phenomena that are still relevant and are current within the field, or other new ones; and
  3. To analyze themes, problems and phenomena that have not been studied or that require new approaches.

Specific Objectives

  • To generate a comprehensive and critical knowledge of literature.
  • To train students by providing theoretical and methodological bases that allow them to adequately analyze and explain relevant phenomena, themes, and problems of Mexican Literature, as well as the appropriate research techniques to structure works that, based on the analytical and critical exercise, are oriented towards reflection and discussion regarding literature, literary criticism, and theory.
  • To Train researchers capable of proposing, adapting, or innovating the theoretical-methodological tools pertinent for the study of literary phenomenon in relation to the five Lines of Generating and Application of Knowledge (LGAC) that the academic nucleus of the program works on.
