This Participatory Action Research (PAR) line focuses on addressing current challenges related to the preservation of biocultural heritage and the development of sustainable agroecosystems from an agroecological perspective. It integrates scientific knowledge with traditional wisdom to promote sustainable and resilient practices within agroecological systems. The PAR approach fosters community governance and empowerment, supporting the revaluation and restoration of biocultural resources and contributing to the development of a more sustainable and equitable agriculture. |

Biocultural landscapes have been defined as those that “allow for the conservation of natural and cultural heritage located within a defined territory through the planning of traditional land uses, while simultaneously promoting local economic growth through sustainable rural development and harmonious urban development.” In this context, this line understands biocultural community development as promoting, through individual participation, changes in people’s lifestyles and ways of life while respecting their traditions and identity. It emphasizes the use of local food production systems and environmental resources in ways that enable community members to expand and improve their life opportunities. Accordingly, this line aims to foster development-facilitating strategies within communities by identifying their relationship with the surrounding environment, while continuously considering and integrating their traditions, cultural principles, and knowledge regarding the use of biodiversity and agrobiodiversity. |
