Dr. Carlos Adolfo Piña García
Currently, I am a researcher in the Centro de Estudios de Opinión y Análisis (CEOA) at Universidad Veracruzana Before, I was a Post-Doctoral research fellow at the Computer Sciences Department of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y en Sistemas (IIMAS) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). My research involves gathering social media information and the quantitative analysis of data in social networks. This research is carried out together with Carlos Gershenson and Jesús Siqueiros. We are especially interested in regional and global activity in terms of tweets and the development of new methods for collecting and analyzing data.
I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Essex at the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. My Thesis: «Sampling Online Social Networks through Random Walks» was supervised by Professor Dongbing Gu. During my Ph.D. studies I was an exchange student at the Beijing Institute of Technology ( 北京理工大学).
I studied a Master in Artificial Intelligence at the Faculty of Physics and Artificial Intelligence of the Universidad Veracruzana (2005 – 2007). My Thesis: «De la robótica a la nanotecnología en busca de una metodología híbrida para el diseño y construcción de una arquitectura robótica con un enfoque celular« was supervised by Virginia Angélica García Vega. During this period I also coursed two semesters of Mathematics at the Facultad de Matemáticas (2007-2008). In addition, I studied a (4-year Bachelor) in Administrative Computer Systems at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Veracruz (1999-2003).
