Es una sencilla y absoluta verdad \u00a0que no s\u00f3lo ha resultado del pensamiento y la \u00a0huella de grandes hombres y mujeres en los recientes dos mil o m\u00e1s a\u00f1os. Est\u00e1 presente en la historia de nuestra especie y de todas las especies que han habitado y habitan nuestro mundo. El agua ha contribuido a crear bosques y selvas lo mismo que a fundar civilizaciones. Sin embargo, d\u00eda a d\u00eda nos empe\u00f1amos en deteriorarla y malgastarla de muchas y diversas maneras, soslayando la relaci\u00f3n que guardamos nosotros y el planeta con el vital l\u00edquido. En el sentido opuesto, los cap\u00edtulos contenidos en esta obra nos estimulan a reflexionar sobre su preservaci\u00f3n en t\u00e9rminos de la extinci\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica de las especies, la gesti\u00f3n ambiental, la contaminaci\u00f3n, la disponibilidad de agua y la vegetaci\u00f3n, las plantas invasoras acu\u00e1ticas, el problema \u00e9tico que su p\u00e9rdida significa y la crisis planetaria que representa.
