Welcome

Following-up on the first EDI Symposium on University Policies on Gender of the Space for Women Leaders of Higher Education Institutions (EMULIES) of the Inter-American Organization for Higher Education (IOHE)  held at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina (2019), this 2nd EMULIES-OUI EDI Symposium led by the Universidad Veracruzana in collaboration with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) invites reflection on the role of higher education institutions (HEIs) and their actions with regards to gender inequalities, interculturality, inclusion and intersectionality, with the aim of sharing experiences, strategies, and good practices.

The current demands for equality and their impact on higher education make it imperative to implement institutional policies for the respect of human diversity that ensure substantive equality and equal treatment between people, eradicate any form of violence and discrimination, and integrate their participation in all areas of educational institutions.

The idea is to generate a space for dialogue and reflection on the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies to promote gender equality in HEIs, including a critical assessment of the role of men in various forms of violence and discrimination, together with the topic of co-responsibility in care.

To share key problems and actions on human rights and protocols for addressing violence against women, highlighting commitments made and pending issues.

To reflect on the impact that feminisms have had for the transformation of academia within HEIs as well as outside institutional spaces.

And, of course, to discuss and analyze gender inequalities in HEIs in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic and its widespread and generalized effects, considering that the health emergency has impacted academic life, as well as personal life spaces.
