Preamble:
At the beginning of the 21st century, higher education institutions in Latin America and other world regions entered a phase of reformulating internal policies to establish relevant legislation and areas aimed at attending to the university community on the subject of human rights and violence against women.
In recent years, HEIs have reformulated and restructured these tools in response to requests from the university community; this, amid a great international mobilization for the life and safety of women, within which female university students have played a key part.
At the continental level, virtually all HEIs have areas that deal with human rights and violence against women. Their activities, and the reformulation of their procedures, in some cases take place alongside feedback from a community that demands they be more efficient and effective in practice. This represents a major challenge and provides the opportunity to learn about universities’ experiences, their specific problems and the alternatives applied for their possible resolution. For this reason, in this thematic axis members of university communities are convened to share and analyze the lived experience in this regard within the HEI context, in order to learn about their contributions to preventing and addressing violence against women in universities in more efficient ways.
Objective:
To learn about the experience, reflections, and proposals of members of the university communities of the HEIs on human rights, violence, and protocols for addressing gender-based violence. This will be a space to share the principle problems and decisive actions taken in relation to these issues, highlighting commitments made and issues still in need of urgent attention.
