Ganador de m\u00faltiples premios y galardones a nivel nacional e internacional, entre ellos el Premio Miguel de Cervantes en 2005 y el Doctorado Honoris Causa de la Universidad Veracruzana en 2003. Amante de esta ciudad y pilar de esta Casa de Estudios, siempre quiso que su legado fuera para ella.
