A PROUD NEWYORKER

(1)To the editor: I moved to New York City three years ago from a small town in Montana. My friends and family thought I Was crazy. They said New York was (5)a dirty dangerous city. “every time I pick up a newspaper I read about crime in New York: one friend told me I Know there’s a lot of  crime here but (10)Newspapers always make New York seem Much more dangerous then is really is. They Give the wrong impression of life in our city. Goods news doesn’t sell newspaper

(15)so all we read about is muggings and murders and disasters. I’d like to tell you about another side of New York: the good side. Three weeks ago I Broke my leg. The first  week I couldn’t walk. I live (20)alone and I didn’t have anyone to help me do things. During that first week my neighbors brought me food and went shopping for me when I needed something. They were wonderful. Now I (25)walk on crutches and everywhere I go people ask about my leg and try to help me. bus drivers wait for me and people help me get and off the bus. Complete strangers help me carry packages and (30)get taxis for me.

These are the wonderful people in our city that you never read about and im proud of be one of them. Its true New York has its problems, but sometimes we (35)need to think about the thousands of good people in our city. We might see one crime in a year, but now Many times do people help us every day?
