The voice is also a musical instrument that accompanies melodies and sones. Son Huasteco, as well as Son Jarocho require a special tone and voice quality that result from a rich cultural mixture. The voice quality and cadence needed by the sones obliges to modulate the voice and use a quality of singing that bring together American, European (Iberian) and African coral techniques.

The falsetto is a characteristic of the Son Huasteco, which means, the emission of sound similar to those of the Muslims laments. This sing quality establishes the difference between Huasteco and Jarocho sones.
