Como cada año el Festival Jazzuv es el Olimpo de los adictos al jazz y la edición 2011 no fue la excepción. Comenzando con el pie derecho, Kenny Barron, pianista nueve veces nominado en los premios Grammy, en compañía de la privilegiada cantante Gretchen Parlato, fueron los encargados de recibir al público con un boom de jazz en el concierto de inauguración. Conforme los días transcurrieron todos los melómanos pudimos deleitarnos con las participaciones de grandes exponentes del genero como: el arquitecto del post-bop swing Louis Hayes; el baterista, actor y compositor, Jeff “Tain Watts”; así como todo el sabor de las congas desde el noreste del Caribe a cargo del percusionista puertorriqueño Giovanni Hidalgo; para después llegar el turno del innovador, espontaneo y gran improvisador del saxo tenor Joe Lovano.
Mientras todo este desfile de virtuosos del jazz ocurría, transcurrían a la par actividades culturales enfocadas a promover el jazz y su estudio tales como: mesas redondas, jam sessions, clases maestras, conferencias, presentaciones de libros así como espectáculos de danza y teatro. Todas estas actividades tuvieron lugar en distintas sedes, tales como: Casa del Lago UV, Teatro del Estado, La Ceiba Gráfica, el Café Teatro Tierra Luna, Au petit café, La Tasca, Al Andalus, Foro Fernando Torre Lapham y la Escuela Veracruzana de Cine Luis Buñuel.
La cuarta edición del Festival Internacional Jazzuv, celebrada del 3 al 13 de Noviembre de 2011, junto con las anteriores, son espacios dispuestos para que los asistentes naveguen en el mar cultural del jazz, este tipo de eventos da cabida a que las nuevas (y no tan nuevas) generaciones nos enriquezcamos a nivel cultural y espiritual. Las expresiones artísticas como la música, el teatro, la danza y la literatura serán siempre gestores de nuevas conciencias y por ende mejores personas. Es por eso muy importante apoyar eventos como el Festival Internacional Jazzuv, para que de este modo hagamos de la cultura de nuestra cuidad una más amplia, más rica y por supuesto más viva.
Fourth edition of the International Jazzuv Festival.
As every year the Jazzuv festival is the Olympus of those who are addicted to jazz, and 2011 edition was not the exception. To get off to a good start, Kenny Barron, the pianist nine times nominated to the Grammy awards, with the amazing voice of the female singer Gretchen Parlato, were in charge of receiving the audience with a boom of jazz at the inauguration concert. As the days went by, all the music lovers could enjoy the participation of amazing exponents of the genre, such as: the architect of the post-bop swing, Louis Hayes; the actor, drummer and composer, Jeff “Tain Watts”; as well as the entire flavor of congas from north-eastern Caribbean, in charge of the Puerto-Rican percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo; for later enjoy the innovator, spontaneous, and great improviser of tenor saxophone, Joe Lovano.
As well as this parade of virtuos jazz musicians was taking place, other cultural activities focused on promoting jazz music and its study such as: roundtable discussions, jam sessions, master classes, lectures, book launches, as well as dance and theatre performances were held. All above were held in different locations such as: Casa del Lago UV, Teatro del Estado, La Ceiba Gráfica, el Café Teatro Tierra Luna, Au petit café, La Tasca, Al Andalus, Foro Fernando Torre Lapham y la Escuela Veracruzana de Cine Luis Buñuel.
The fourth edition of the international Jazzuv festival was carried out from November 3rd to November 13th of 2011, as well as the previous ones, those are spaces available to the audience for them to navigate in the cultural sea of jazz music. This kind of events allow the new (and not that new) generations to enrich themselves in a cultural and spiritual way. The artistic expressions such as music, theatre, dance and literature will always be creators of new consciences and of course better people. It is for all the above very important support these kinds of events like the International Jazzuv Festival, because in this way we can make from our culture a more rich and wide one.
