Percusionista y cantante de Nigeria, toca una gran variedad de instrumentos y estilos pero principalmente en géneros de música tradicional africana. Proviene de una familia del talking drum de Eruwa en Nigeria Occidental. En su adolescencia viajó y grabó álbumes con la banda “Inter- Reformers” del reconocido Chief Ebenezer Obey. En 1985 llegó a E.U. para tocar con “All Stars” de O.J. Ekemode y tres meses después con el mundialmente reconocido Babatunde Olatunji. Es miembro de la banda de Mickey Hart con quien ganó un Grammy al mejor álbum de música mundial contemporánea “Planet Drum” en 1991 y otro en 2009. Ha colaborado también con Maruga Brooker y grabado discos con artistas tan variados como Carlos Santana, Airto Moreira, Bola Abimbola, Zajir Hussain, Chief Ebenezer Obey entre otros. Su banda “Sikiru Adepoju & Heart Beat” debuto en 2009 en el Starwood Festival. Su proyecto actual se titula “Limbo ritmo proyecto” en el que trabaja con Giovanni Hidalgo.
Sikiru Adepoju: Percussionist and Singer from Nigeria. He plays a variety of instruments and styles. He comes from a talking drum family from Eruwa in Western Nigeria. While still in his teens, Sikiru toured with and recorded several albums with the “Inter- Reformers Band” of the well known Chief Ebenezer Obey. In 1985 he came to America to play with O.J. Ekemode´s Nigerian All Star and later with the worldly acclaimed Babatunde Olatunji. He has been part of most of Mickey Hart´s projects, with who won a Grammy in 1991 and other in 2009 with the album “Planet Drum”. He has collaborated with Muruga Brooker and recorded Cd´s with Carlos Santana, Airto Moreira, Bola Abimbola, Zahir Hussain, Chief Ebenezer Obey and many others. His band “Sikiru Adepoju & Heart Beat”debuted in 2009 at Starwood Festival. Actually he is working with Giovanni Hidalgo in the “Limbo Rhythm Project”.
