Pianista de clase mundial y prolífico compositor. Ha influenciado a toda una nueva generacion de músicos y artistas. Ganador del premio Guggenheim Fellowship del 2010 por su trabajo “No beginning, no end” su tercer álbum en el que trabajó con más de 70 músicos. En palabras de Quincy Jones: “Perfección, 360 grados de alma y ciencia en un ser humano, mi tipo de músico”. Kenny nació en Brooklyn en 1951, empezando a tocar desde niño. Estudió en Manhatan School of Music y en Berklee School of Music en 1970. Más tarde en Brasil estudió con Joao Assis. Formó su trío en 1981 con Tom Rainey y Ratzo Harris, grabando cuatro álbumes. En 1985 se convirtió en el pianista de la Mel Lewis Orchestra (Village Vanguard Orchestra), componiendo y arreglando para esta orqeusta y para las más importantes del jazz en Europa. Grabó su música en dos CDs con la Brussels Jazz Orchestra. En 1996 publicó “Effortless Mastery” uno de los libros más reveladores y leídos de música e improvisación. En el 2000 formó su trío con Ari Hoenig y Johannes Weidenmueller grabando tres álbumes. En 2007 lanzó su primer álbum con Chris Potter, Dave Douglas, Scott Colley, and Brian Blade con el sello Blue Note. Kenny sigue dando clases y clínicas en E.U. y el extranjero y es artista residente en la New York University. Continúa tocando a dúo con Toots Thielemans. He attended at Manhatan School of Music and Berklee School of Music in 1970. He later took lessons in Brazil with Joao Assis. Kenny started his own trio with Tom Rainey and Ratzo Harris recording four albums. In 1985 he became in the pianist for the Mel Lewis Orchestra (Village Vanguard Orchestra). Werner has composed and arranged for this orchestra the major jazz bands in Europe. He’s release two CDs with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. In 1996 published “Efortless Mastery”, one of the most inspiring and widely read books on music and improvisation. In 2000 he forms a trio with Ari Hoening and Johannes Weidenmueller and records 3 albums.
